Skier
What MH are you wearing now?As I am typing this sitting on a chair in a 65° F house, I am wearing my Extend boxers. Under Carhartts. Not a pretty sight.
Which season do you enjoy most and why?Winter first for obvious reasons, plus ice climbing and winter mountaineering is just too much fun. Fall comes in a close second with all the killer climbing in the Sierra on cooler days and no bugs at night.
Beer or Wine?Beer- After a long summer day climbing a backcountry route in the Sierra.
Wine- In a Nalgene in a tent on a big Sierra ski tour.
Tequila- Being slurped from my wife’s perfect belly button…Oh wait, you didn’t ask about that. Sorry.
Do you have a pet?No, but I have a 4 year old boy and a 11 month old girl and still think they are easier than a dog.
What’s the one guilty pleasure you're proud of?Jumping on my 800cc 2-stroke smoke puking sled and pushing it to the boundary lines to get to the base of another killer Sierra ski descent.
Do you have a dream project? If so, what is it?In the not too distant future, I want to ski an unskied line on an undisclosed peak with an undisclosed altitude somewhere above the 60th parallel with an unprecedented vertical drop of an undisclosed amount. Kinda vague?
Any advice for folks who want to become involved in your activities of choice?Go snowboarding; it’s a hell of a lot easier than teleskiing and chicks go for a saggy assed snowboarder dude over a crusty hippy twizler any day.
What can you tell today’s youth about life in the outdoors? It’s way better than getting your thumb pumped playing Halo 3. Plus, chicks dig guys with a tan.
Personal Highlights:
Dropping the knee for the first time on a pair of 200cm Tele Savages and leather Scarpa Toute Terrain boots while poaching Granite Chief at Squaw back in 1990. Pitching out in space on The Shield after a pin blew. Watching Dave Nettle stumble and fall down drunk in his whitey tighties in a hotel room in Huaraz, Peru after a Pisco Sour binge celebrating a speed ascent of Alpamayo. Face shots in AK. The birth of my son, Sage, and my daughter, Indy.
Bio:
I grew up chasing deer and running into the occasional pot farmer in the Santa Cruz Mountains until I left for UC Davis only to graduate with some brainy sounding degree in something I lost passion in pursuing. I soon moved to Tahoe and skied and climbed with some amazing mentors that taught me how to push the physical and mental boundaries of both sports. Taking a break from construction during the summers, I hauled tomatoes in a farming community north of Sacramento for four years from July to October to support my skiing habits. Ironically, this is where I met my future wife (no, she doesn't smoke, over eat, or have a tattoo of a Harley just above her ass crack, but she did have the handle of "Electra"). After six years in Tahoe, we moved to Mammoth to escape the "hub-bub" of Tahoe and to seek out more dramatic and imposing lines of the Eastern Sierra. We now live on a quiet street in Mammoth with our hell-bent 4 year old boy and 11 month old girl, but I still try to somehow ski and climb every day.
